Dryer belt snaps, fire starts and smoke fills Taylor laundromat
A snapped dryer belt led to firefighters being called to a laundromat in Taylor.
The department was called to Goddardview Coin Laundry & Dry Cleaning, 21270 Goddard Road, on Monday afternoon after one of the dryers in use caught fire.
Taylor Fire Chief Steve Portis said there were towels in the dryer when a belt broke and it overheated.
A patron shot a couple of pictures of the incident as it was unfolding.
Flames can be seen in a small area of the business.
Smoke filled the laundromat, but the damage was minimal and no one was hurt, according to the fire chief.
The patron, who had a load of clothes in a washing machine at the time, was at the business with her mother.
She said the couple was calm through the ordeal and never panicked.
The patron said she and her family have been going to the laundromat for years and was shocked to see the incident unfold.
According to the fire chief, the smoke made the situation look a lot worse than it was.
